I love this question; the best one to really sum up life and to keep it simple. My grandmother was practicle, she lived next door to us and was an amazing lady. She could make quilts appear out of thin air, blackberry cobbler from berries we picked early in the morning’s when it was summer break, and she could can vegitables with no fear of a pressure cooker. These are just a few of my favorite task that I would watch her take on during summer break. I would watch her intently while she would carefully prepare the jars for a hot water bath in her giant pot. It was incredible the task that she would performe on a daily regimen just to make sure that our family had plenty to eat and a nice treat after dinner.
She was resourceful and could make delicious breads. When I asked her for the secret to their deliciousness, the kind that lingers in memory, she said, “the less you mess with it, the better it will be.” She kept her recipes simple, avoiding fancy flavors and excessive kneading. She believed in the beauty of simplicity, finding happiness in uncomplicated things. Life can get complicated, but she found that simplicity led to her greatest happiness. Our paths can become cluttered, making it hard to see where we are headed, but slowing down and paying attention can make it a beautiful journey.
